Stagecoach Journey! 6/3/21

We came to this area to see the Stagecoach Journey with Cowboy Rick and Bev Hamby.

We know them from the Fall festivals at Silver Dollar City in Branson,MO, along with Dennis Crider.

The stagecoach they travel with was used at the park many years ago and many had the privilege of riding it then.  Rick has a wonderful story about how he found it!

Thursday, June 3rd, was an amazing day!

First we went to the Briscoe County courthouse in Silverton and got a map of all the county roads and then I followed it to where I knew the stage coach would be coming. Mark did not believe I knew what I was talking about because I usually don’t... but he complied and drove where I told him to!  We were  driving down this curvy dirt sometimes muddy road and  we looked up ahead and sure enough there was Dennis, photographer extraordinaire, waiting for the stage coach to come around the bend.

I was right!  He welcomed us and told us where we could park there in front of him.

It was so great we got to watch them coming and then right by us.

They were headed on to their camping spot for the night.

We left then and drove onto Clarendon and kept driving through town to the west to the Charles Goodnight Historical Center. (Lonesome Dove fans... think Cap’n Call!)

We took a tour which was great and totally worth the $10 each!  To me, it tied the walking tour we took at the Fort Worth Stockyards all  together with what we learned here!

We went to the cemetery and then went looking for some kind of signs of the J A Ranch hoping for a sign or something to photograph, but had no luck on the narrow dirt road we were on.  (The Stagecoach Journey had been traveling through the JA Ranch for the last few days.)

We drove back to Clarendon and headed to where we knew the coach and cowboys were set up for the evening.

When we got there, Rick and said, “let’s go to a party!” He was insistent so we followed him and Dennis around Caprock Canyon and back to Quitaque and then into the canyon to a wonderful group picnic area. We met a bunch of wonderful people and had a great time with delicious food that was just amazing!

We got home late but happy!  I walked and stood too much and felt the effects in my heel, but it was worth it.  It was a Serendipity sort of day!

We missed the big sendoff in Silverton last weekend but we heard about it from some of the people in town!  Tomorrow, Saturday, we will be able to see the stagecoach and crew again and at least one of our friends, Brian, will get to ride the stagecoach he rode as a little boy!
